According to my daughters, it’s a squishy world and they are squishy girls. The generational divide has never been wider than it is right now.
The Boise Area Has Squishy Fever
Wait, what about when it was all about fidget spinners? Or Labubus? Or further back to the 90’s with Beanie Babies. Oh, yeah, Beanie Babies.
I was a rabid, club card-carrying, Beanie Baby collector back in the 90’s. Stalking the local Boise Hallmark stores for their next shipment, and eventually casing all the stores and ravaging their supplies and building my Beanie Baby 401k empire.
Yeah, I had all the retired Beanie Babies with the tag protectors and scanned eBay and QVC for the latest Beanie Baby deals and shipments.
Do People Still Collect Beanie Babies In Idaho?
Little did we know that once McDonald’s got involved the Teenie Beanies arrived in Happy Meals, the bottom would fall out of the Beanie Baby market and they would all be relatively worthless.
Oh well, it was the thrill of the hunt right? Right. And that thrill was recently reactivated with the new Squishy trend that is sweeping Idaho and the nation, if not, the world.
Legend has it that it all started with a viral Tik Tok viral video with a squishy toy called Nee-Doh. A malleable stress ball-like toy manufactured by a company called Schylling.
Currently they are taking a break from orders as they’re products have sold out everywhere they have shipped and are being resold on the secondary market for 10 times or more than what their actual retail price.
The demand is so high, that the knock off and black market has kicked into high gear to produce similar products that are cheaper versions, while still commanding just slightly lower prices.
The Squishy universe may have been sparked by Nee-doh, but it is expanding way beyond Schylling.
Most squishies are put into different categories based on whats is inside their rubber outer shell.
Water & air, corn starch, gel, and some are just different densities of foam like the popular slow rise squishy which usually comes in the shape of food like cheese, butter, and bread.
Since this craze began, my kids don’t want to go to the park or ride bikes or bounce of the trampoline or go swimming, they was to admire their Squishy Hoard while searching for more of them.

In fact, we have spent several afternoons on Squishy Hunts after getting an online tip that they had some at Target or Ace Hardware…
