Proposal to expand church, parking moves forward in SE Boise

The expansion of a southeast Boise church will move forward despite an appeal from neighbors.

The Boise City Council voted unanimously to deny an appeal and uphold a planning and zoning commission decision approving a conditional use permit for a 14,000 sq. ft. expansion for Eastwind Community Church, located at 4750 S. Surprise Way. Boise Associate Planner Matthew Denis said the proposal also includes increasing parking from 92 spaces to 223 and adding a second egress/entry point to the site.

Britiney Slaughter, a Boise resident who spoke for the group appealing the planning and zoning decision, said the neighbors felt concerned the expansion would have materially negative impacts on the surrounding neighborhood, such as additional traffic, and wondered why a traffic study was not required for the project. Other concerns included the potential impact on pedestrians and cyclists on a pathway that runs in front of the facility, safe egress from the neighborhood during wildfires, and whether the city’s zoning code permits buildings that large in its A1 zone…
