Improperly discarded fireworks spark Meridian house fire after fourth of July

A home in Meridian caught fire early Sunday morning after improperly discarded fireworks reignited hours after they were used, according to Meridian Fire.

Firefighters responded just after 2 a.m. on July 5 to the 4800 block of Grand Rapids Drive for a reported exterior fire. When crews arrived, they found flames on the outside of the home and were able to quickly stop the fire before it spread inside the house.

Meridian Fire says the fire started when used fireworks were thrown into a trash can next to the home before they had completely cooled…
