An Idaho prisoner who was out for the day on work release died over the weekend.
The 45-year-old, whose name has not been released, died at 6:24 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Idaho Department of Correction. He was incarcerated at the South Idaho Correctional Institution just south of Boise.
There have been more than 80 deaths within the state’s prison system since 2020, according to a database of in-custody deaths maintained by the Idaho Statesman.
