Eagle approves new police chief

Last week, Eagle City Council officially confirmed the appointment of its new police chief.

Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford and his leadership team nominated Travis Ruby to be Eagle’s next police chief during last week’s city council meeting. Ruby is replacing Ryan Wilkie, who has served in the position for nearly three years. The rotation in positions like these is typical, Ruby said during an interview with the Idaho Press.

“I am very, very excited to be able to reconnect with the community and make sure that they know who we are and that we’re doing everything we can to make sure that Eagle’s a safe community,” Ruby said. “This is a position that I’ve always wanted to work in; it’s a coveted position. I’m very excited to be back in Eagle.”

While he is stepping into this new position, Eagle residents will still be receiving the same level of high-quality service they’re used to, Ruby said.

Ruby is not unfamiliar with Eagle. He began working with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in 2000 and has since spent a third of his career in Eagle, Clifford said during the city council meeting. During that time, Ruby worked as a training officer, acting field commander, juvenile crimes detective and Eagle High school resource officer. In total, Ruby worked in Eagle for nearly nine years.
