School closures, teacher turnover in Nampa cause consternation

NAMPA — An academic year riddled with difficult decisions has come to an end and the next phase for the Nampa School District is beginning.

For staff, this has meant reassignments, resignations and layoffs.

As of May 31, 86 certified staff members have resigned and 35 non-rehires did not have their contracts renewed for the 2024-2025 school year, according to the district. This does not include retirees. Separately, 82 teachers have been relocated due to the district’s school closures.

This isn’t an unusual turnover for the district, said district spokesperson Matt Sizemore. On an annual basis, the district normally sees over 100 staff members leave each year; however, that number includes retirees, Sizemore said.

“Being fully transparent, that’s not to say there won’t be more in the coming months, but right now, the trends are showing some of the lowest numbers of resignations in a few years,” he wrote over email.

The Idaho Press reached out to the district a number of times requesting interviews, information and clarity regarding this story. The district responded by addressing certain questions over email.
