Boise is set to get its new chief of police in September.

Mayor Lauren McLean will swear in Chris Dennison as the Boise Police Department’s new chief at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 27, the mayor’s office said in a Wednesday press release. The public has been invited to attend Dennison’s swearing in ceremony, to be held in the Boise City Council Chambers, located on the third floor of Boise City Hall.

The ceremony will commence pending confirmation from city council, the release said.

Dennison’s first day is slated for Sept. 15 and he will be officially begin in the position on Sept. 20, following current police chief Ron Winegar’s retirement, the release said.

Attendees of the August ceremony will be able to meet Dennison and partake in a “light lunch reception” directly after the ceremony.

McLean announced that she selected Dennison to be the city’s next police chief on Aug. 5. He got the nod over two other finalists and comes to Boise after spending the last 20 years with the Tucson Police Department in Arizona.
