Rain likely – and thunderstorms possible – in Boise area. Here’s when and what to know

Sunday evening through midday Tuesday will bring a chance of rain to the Boise area, with potential expected rainfall between half an inch to 1 inch, said National Weather Service Boise meteorologist Jackson Macfarlane.

By Monday evening, the chances of rain in Idaho jump to between 60 percent and 80 percent and stay that way through Tuesday when the system starts to move out around noon. Another system could come through later in the week, but there’s uncertainty as to whether it will bring rain.

The rain should cover most of the weather service’s forecast area from southeast Oregon to McCall to Twin Falls. And there’s a potential chance for storms and lighting on Sunday and Monday evening.

“It’s pretty widespread,” Macfarlane said. “That system last week that we had really helped calm those fires down. … With the forecast being multiple days of rain, we could really relieve some of these fires.”

However, there’s uncertainty about whether the rain will be constant or sporadic, so some areas could get a lot of precipitation and others less.
