Boise Bicycle Project to host inaugural Open Streets event, replacing Goathead Fest

This scheduled Boise Bench road closure will be unlike the others.

In coordination with the city of Boise, the Boise Bicycle Project will be holding an Open Streets event to support safe streets and infrastructure. A stretch of Latah Street, from about Emerald to Cassia Street, will be closed on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. to host live music, “bike themed games,” art installations and local business-hosted activities across the stretch of road, a Boise Bicycle Project press release said.

“Open Streets Boise is a celebration of community, where we reclaim our streets for people, not cars,” Nina Pienaar, BBP’s director of bicycle advocacy, said in the release.

The Open Streets event will be replacing the Boise Goathead Fest that was also hosted by the Boise Bicycle Project. The six-time festival sought to celebrate Boise’s “bicycle culture” and promote goathead removal as costumed bike riders rode the streets of Boise. The move to the Open Streets Boise event looked to provide a “bigger” and “more mission-aligned event,” according to the Goathead Fest website .
