Fire activity increases on the Wapiti Fire and heavy wind is in the forecast

GRANDJEAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) -Two and a half months ago, lightning ignited the Wapiti Fire, which has grown to over 125,000 acres with 78% completion. On Wednesday, there was much more activity near the south side of the fire, near Big Meadows, which caused increased smoke production. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the Stanley Basin is still rated as good, even with smoke increasing from the up-tick of fire activity and being combined with other fires in the area.
