GARDEN CITY — For more than 2,000 people across the Treasure Valley, the Saturday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving provided a chance to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner and/or take-home food box free of charge, courtesy of the Boise Rescue Mission and its sponsor, Albertsons.
“Everybody’s going to get a turkey, and the size of the turkey is dependent on the size of the family,” the mission’s president, Rev. Bill Roscoe, said of the take-home boxes. “There’s fresh potatoes, onions, carrots, and then there’s canned fruit and/or canned vegetables. There’s always a cake mix or a brownie mix.”
This year marks the 23rd that the Boise Rescue Mission has served a Thanksgiving dinner to those in need, with about 1,400 people attending Nampa’s Saturday banquet at the College Church of the Nazarene and about 900 coming to Tuesday’s banquet at the Vineyard Boise Christian Fellowship. Gov. Brad Little showed up to volunteer, as did several Boise State University football players and radio host Kevin Miller, who dressed in a turkey costume.
