Canyon County breaks ground on new sheriff’s admin building

CALDWELL — Friday morning officially kicked off a 14-month construction project in Canyon County, as numerous county employees and elected officials assembled for a ceremonial groundbreaking at what will be the site of the sheriff’s office’s new administration building.

“This will be a beautiful, three-story state-of-the-art building. It is an investment in our community, our future, and our law enforcement,” county commissioner Leslie Van Beek said. “This facility will consolidate all Canyon County sheriff’s operations under one roof, providing the department with necessary space for the next 20 to 30 years.”

Presently, the sheriff’s office administrative divisions are spread out between the courthouse and jail. The new 82,866-square-foot building, which is scheduled for completion in March 2026, will be constructed in what was previously the parking lot across from the Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center…
