Police chase ends in arrests after gunfire near Boise River

Garden City, ID (CBS2) — A high-speed police chase in Garden City ended with the arrest of two men after gunfire was reported near Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and the Boise River early Thursday morning.

Garden City and Boise City police responded to multiple reports of gunshots around 5:45 a.m. A Garden City officer located a vehicle at the end of E. 44th Street near the Boise River and attempted to make contact with the occupants. The driver, identified as Obed Paredes Chavez, accelerated and rammed the officer’s marked patrol car before fleeing south on E. 44th Street at speeds exceeding 50 mph, according to police.

The vehicle swerved around another patrol car and eventually crashed into a fence at the corner of E. 44th and Adams. Officers used their vehicles to pin the suspect’s car, preventing further escape attempts. For approximately 20 minutes, the occupants refused to comply with police commands to exit the vehicle.
