Meridian students raise over $22,000 for St. Luke’s with gaming marathon

MERIDIAN — The teen room on the pediatric floor at St. Luke’s Hospital in downtown Boise will soon be getting a makeover, thanks to a trio of Meridian Technical Charter High School (MTCHS) students and the supporters they rallied for a 24-hour video game marathon.

Senior Marco Duarte and juniors Mar Bradford and Ethan Mensior — as well as about 30% of the MTCHS student body — participate in SkillsUSA, a competitive career and technical student organization which offers a variety of occupational and leadership contests.

“[MTCHS teacher Duane] Erickson said that our [state] SkillsUSA chapter was thinking about getting rid of the community service event. He wanted to do something about it, so he asked us if we could make something out of it,” said Duarte, who had previously competed individually in SkillsUSA web design events…
