BOISE, ID – Officials say 31 new large fires were reported this past week in the Southern, Eastern, Rocky Mountain and Northern Rockies areas. No currently active fires are located in Idaho or Washington. One new fire is burning in Montana.
Since January 1, 2025, 19,512 wildfires have burned 881,249 acres. That is above the ten year average of 13,116 wildfires and 827,522 acres burned, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
Recent precipitation was above normal in the Northwest, except in portions of the Columbia Basin and southeast Oregon. Overall drought slowly increased across the US since late February with nearly 45% of the US in drought.
