Caldwell SD plans to remove pay-to-play policy for 2025-26

Almost a year after the Caldwell School District introduced a $100-per-sport fee for student-athletes, school board trustees now plan to roll it back ahead of the 2025-2026 academic year.

The pay-to-play policy, intended to cover athletic transportation costs, was introduced after the district’s $4.1 million supplemental levy was voted down in last May’s elections. Six months later, the levy was approved. The policy applied to student-athletes at Caldwell High and Syringa Middle schools.

“Passing the levy has made a huge impact, and that’s part of the reason we’re not going to have pay-to-play, because the levy did pass,” the district’s activities director, Jonathan Hallock, told the board May 12…
