New River Street mural brings color to Jesse Tree and a historic neighborhood

Boise’s historic River Street neighborhood got some added color Thursday with a new community-painted mural at Jesse Tree.

The mural comes to an area of Boise that has historically been characterized by its ethnic diversity. In the 20th century, the working-class River Street neighborhood had the majority of Boise’s Black residents — who were displaced to the area by discriminatory housing practices — as well as members of the Basque community, according to the Erma Hayman House website, part of the Boise City Department of Arts and History…
