Lions Club to cover lifeguard certification for 10 Caldwell pool applicants

A month after the freshly-renovated Caldwell Memorial Pool saw its first swimmers in half a decade, the city of Caldwell is teaming up with the local chapter of the Lions Club to double the number of lifeguards on duty.

“In order to teach and certify lifeguards, you need to be a certified LGI [lifeguard instructor]. There’s not many of them in the Valley. Spots are limited in classes as well,” said Tiffany DeFrance, Caldwell’s parks and recreation director. “It’s just a matter of finding LGIs, scheduling [them], and getting your applicants into the classes.”

Currently, the pool employs 11 lifeguards. Shortly after reopening, there was an afternoon when it had to close as none were available for duty…
