The do’s, don’t’s and technicalities of fireworks in Idaho

Independence Day is fast approaching, bringing the opportunity to celebrate the nation’s founding, indulge in a few too many hotdogs and — whether you love them or hate them — blast off some fireworks.

While the state’s approach hasn’t changed recently, what is and isn’t allowed remains unclear for many as the state, counties and cities all have differing regulations around how you can go about hosting your personal pyrotechnics exhibit.

According to Idaho State code, “nonaerial common fireworks” may only be sold and used during specific windows in the year. These fireworks are specifically designed to remain on or near the ground, not travel outside a 15-foot diameter or emit sparks or material any direction outside of 20 feet. The first window for their sale opens around the Fourth of July, beginning at midnight on June 23 and ending at midnight on July 5.
