Star Elementary exceeds capacity before opening, seeks emergency classroom space

STAR, Idaho (CBS2) — An elementary school in Star, which is set to open Wednesday, already desperately needs additional classroom space.

A letter sent to the West Ada School District Board of Trustees says that Star Elementary was built anticipating an enrollment of just under 800 students, but actual enrollment has already surged to beyond 860 students. The school fears they do not have enough space to accommodate all of the new students, and is requesting an emergency authorization to obtain a portable classroom.

The request says there is not enough time to follow normal procurement procedures for purchasing and installing the portable, and the board should declare an emergency, which would allow the school to immediately procure and install the portables without the need for formal bidding…
