Kuna, Idaho (CBS2) – The Kuna School District is considering raising the prices of meals for the 2025-2026 school year. The School Board will hear a presentation during its meeting on Tuesday explaining why the price increases are needed.
That presentation, which is posted in the school board’s agenda packet, says the reasons for the increases are as follows.
- Our program offers 100% scratch-cooked breakfast and approximately 80% scratch-cooked lunches
- Scratch cooking costs more in food and labor than heat and serve models
- Federal reimbursement for PAID meals remains low: just $0.42 per lunch
- Current prices haven’t kept pace with actual production cost
- Program must remain financially self-sustaining while meeting USDA Paid Lunch Equity (PLE)
Currently, an elementary school lunch costs $3.40. If approved, it would increase to $3.55
Secondary lunches currently cost $3.90. The school board will consider increasing it to $4.10…
