Main St. project prompted ’emergency’ historic district in Boise. Now, the property is for sale

More than seven years ago, the City of Boise scrambled to declare an emergency, protecting a home on Main St. and 2nd St. The city, under then-Mayor Dave Bieter, said a developer told the city he planned to tear down the home and build something new.

While nothing ever came out of that process, the property and an empty lot next door are now for sale.

Bill Hon and his family have owned the home at 140 W. Main St. since 1931. It was built in 1899, according to property records, and today is divided into apartment units. Construction on the Eoff-Brady-Hon House started in 1897, according to Preservation Idaho, and for a time served as Idaho’s governor’s mansion…
