Boise, Payette forests announce closures as Rock Fire containment efforts continue

CASCADE, Idaho (CBS2) — Firefighters limited the growth of the Rock Fire to 2,100 acres on Thursday, aided by calmer winds and cooler temperatures.

The blaze, located just south of Tamarack Resort, saw containment lines constructed directly against its edge and indirect lines near communities and infrastructure on its east side.

Handcrews and heavy equipment were instrumental in this effort, while planes continued to drop retardant to support the ground operations. Engines and crews are set to work through the night as part of a full suppression strategy…
