Series of earthquakes shake northern Nevada; largest downgraded to 4.8 magnitude

Valmy, Nev. (KUTV) — Multiple earthquakes shook northern Nevada, with the strongest being felt as far as Boise.

The strongest earthquake hit on Saturday, about 32 miles north of Valmy, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake was originally classified as a 5.3 magnitude and downgraded a few hours later to a 4.8 magnitude.

People reported feeling the quake as far west as Wells in Elko County and as east as Winnemucca. Multiple individuals even reported feeling the quake as far north as Boise.

This earthquake was the strongest of a string of quakes in the area. Since Thursday, USGS officials have recorded more than 20 earthquakes all within west Elko County…
