Canyon County approves $7.5 million budget for women’s jail facility north of Caldwell

After four failed bond attempts during the past 18 years, Canyon County will use a portion of its 2026 budget to build a new women’s jail facility near Interstate 84 and US Highway 20/26.

“I am glad that we have got to this point,” Brad Holton, chairman of the Canyon County Board of Commissioners said. “We have gone through numerous meetings to get to where we are tonight.”

The 2026 budget was approved at the board’s Aug. 13 board meeting. It directs $7.5 million of the total of about $162 million – up 2.12% from last year – toward the new facility. The fiscal year begins Oct. 1…
