Mediation fails on Interfaith shelter. Final public hearing now delayed

Residents will have to wait a little longer to give their input on whether or not one of Boise’s homeless shelters should be allowed to move to State Street.

On Tuesday, the City of Boise postponed plans to hold a public hearing on the conditional use permit for Interfaith Sanctuary to relocate to the former Salvation Army warehouse in the Veterans Park neighborhood. The hearing was originally set for September 9.

Noticing issue

The city is now requesting it be pushed back to September 30. This is after Interfaith Sanctuary’s designer didn’t meet the city’s requirements for how long a public hearing sign needed to be posted at the site.

Interfaith Executive Director Jodi Peterson-Stigers told BoiseDev that the timing of when the firm, Erstad Architects, was informed of the hearing date. It left only 24 hours to create and post the sign, leading to it not being posted on site as long as it was supposed to be under city code.
