Despite a raft of testimony in its favor, Eagle wasn’t ready to say yes to an upscale subdivision near Eagle Island State Park.
Last month, the Eagle City Council heard a proposal from developers Rob Nash and Todd McCauley to build a 50-lot, custom home subdivision on large lots on a 45-acre parcel directly west of the popular park on Hatchery Road east of Linder Road. The development team, along with a crowd of supporters from the housing industry, urged the Eagle City Council to approve the project because it would offer more options for custom high-end homes and bring more utilities to the rural area of the city. Former Eagle Mayor Nancy Merrill, and current city council candidate, also testified in support of the project.
But, city council members said the project wasn’t ready for prime time because of still pending engineering reports for the large areas of the parcel in the flood plain and the location of wetlands on the property. They pointed to the close proximity to the Boise River, which flooded during 2017’s Snowmageddon, and other questions about the developers’ push for a gated community as a reason to deny the project…
