Idaho Cattle Already Looking To 2026 Legislative Session

The 2026 Idaho Legislative session starts January 12 th in Boise. While that date may seem a ways off, the Idaho Cattle Association is already looking at the topics that may come before state lawmakers.

“Discussion around disease in the state, or traceability. There’s been discussions around public lands in the states after the concern in the Big Beautiful Bill of selling some public lands,” said ICA Executive Vice President Cameron Mulrony.  “All those things are still circulating in the back channels to see what might move forward in the next legislative session.”

Next Year Could Be Interesting For Ag And Politics

On top of that, Mulrony pointed out, is the mid-term elections in 2026, which means questions of who is running, who will not, and the relationship those candidates have with the farming community.  He added a successful session, whether that’s at the state or federal level, can mean months, maybe years to get meaningful legislative across the finish line

“This downtime, as we might call it, is really when you have a little time to gather your thoughts as to what do we need to continue to work on,” Mulrony said.  “Whereas when things are moving quickly in the state legislature and also at the national level, you’re a little bit more looking at what’s the hot topic or what do I have to what fire do I have to put out today. This gives us a chance to look at how we’re going to build our next campfire.”…
