Inmate who escaped Boise prison faces second murder charge for alleged North Idaho killing

NEZ PERCE COUNTY, Idaho — A Boise inmate accused of killing a man in North Idaho while on the run from prison in 2024 is now facing a second murder charge for the alleged killing of another man.

Skylar Meade was indicted by a grand jury in Nez Perce County back in June 2024 for the murder of 83-year-old James Mauney. Idaho State Police said Mauney’s remains were found near Leland, Idaho. Police were also investigating the death of another man in Clearwater County that they believe may have been connected.

A Nez Perce County judge entered a not-guilty plea for Meade on the first murder charge back in August 2024 after Meade stood in silence during his arraignment. Meade was also sentenced to life for his prison escape in Ada County…
