Construction has started on the new Whitney Pool, a recreational facility for the Boise Bench community. On October 30, 2025, city and school district officials, along with students, held a ceremony at Whitney Elementary School to mark the beginning of the project. The pool has a budget of about $9.5 million. It is a joint project between the City of Boise and the Boise School District and will be built on school property.
Mayor Lauren McLean said the project is important for local families, especially residents of the Boise Bench who have requested a nearby outdoor pool. She noted that the facility will provide a safe place for children and adults to learn swimming and participate in recreational activities.
The Whitney Pool will include an eight-lane lap pool with a depth of up to seven feet, a zero-entry area for children, a slide, and updated indoor restrooms and locker rooms. Construction is scheduled to continue through 2026. The pool is expected to open for the summer 2027 swim season.
