Boise nonprofit launches BEAT the COLD campaign to help families experiencing homelessness

CATCH, a Boise-based nonprofit housing organization, is launching a new BEAT the COLD campaign in response to what organizers are describing as an urgent need for winter items to support the local unhoused community.

CATCH’s team said critically needed items include:

  • HotHands brand hand warmers
  • Winter gloves
  • Warm socks
  • Thermal underwear
  • Beanies and winter hats
  • Sleeping bags
  • Water and sports drinks
  • Bulk, single-serve nonperishable food items

“Weather changes in our community are dramatic and can be extremely dangerous for our unhoused population,” CATCH Outreach Team Lead Connor O’Hora said in a written statement. “The items we receive this time of year are not sitting on a shelf. They are immediately and consistently utilized by those who need them most.”

CATCH officials say that 350 southwest Idaho families and more than 1,400 adults are experiencing homelessness and on CATCH’s housing waitlist. Already this year, CATCH has received more than 19,000 calls on its housing crisis hotline and successfully provided housing for 84 local families, including 162 children, for a total of 351 people, CATCH officials announced in a press release issued Monday…
