After decades of trying to develop affordable housing, the Boise City Ada County Housing Authority sold a property it once dreamed of building on itself.
Earlier this summer, the housing authority signed a contract with Gardner Group for their intent to sell a 3-acre chunk of property at 3119 Moore Street for $4.6 million. This move comes after the property sat vacant while BCACHA, which manages several affordable housing complexes in Ada County and oversees Section 8 housing vouchers, tried multiple times to develop the property into affordable housing since the government agency purchased the land in 2002.
BCACHA Executive Director Deanna Watson said the agency hasn’t yet determined how it will use the proceeds from the sale, but the goal is to use the money for a long-term investment to support the development of affordable housing in Ada County instead of a “one and done” project. She said the property wasn’t feasible for an affordable housing location because its location was outside of the preferred area to use federally funded low-income housing tax credits, and there are few to go around in Idaho, where there are no state funds dedicated to affordable housing development…
