BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Now through Dec. 19, St. Vincent de Paul is holding their 26th annual Cookies for Corrections tradition. A program of community members bringing thousands of cookies to incarcerated residents in the South Boise Prison Complex.
The cookies are all store-bought cookies donated by community members in the weeks leading up to now. Then a group of volunteers deliver the cookies to the complex and hand them out to residents.
“They (residents) see correctional officers and they see maybe a few visitors, but they don’t see much, many people from the community,” said Ralph May, the executive director of St. Vincent de Paul Southwest Idaho. “They’re gonna be our neighbors and so how can we reach out to do something special for them at Christmas time.”…
