BOISE, Idaho — Hundreds of participants braved icy waters at Lucky Peak Reservoir on Saturday for the 23rd annual Gebert-Arbaugh Great Polar Bear Challenge, raising money to help grant wishes for Idaho children with critical illnesses.
About 1,300 people took part in the plunge, which organizers said raised enough money to grant 17 wishes through Make-A-Wish Idaho. The event was held at Spring Shores Marina.
The fundraiser began more than two decades ago as a New Year’s Day tradition between friends Larry Gebert and Gary Arbaugh, who water-skied together each year.
