Boise parks, fire to tackle wildfire fuels, restore habitat in foothills in 2026

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise Parks and Recreation and the Boise Fire Department have planned a series of wildfire mitigation and habitat restoration projects in the Boise Foothills in 2026, including work that will temporarily close some trail access points.

One project will take place in Hulls Gulch Reserve, where crews will use a masticator to remove invasive roses and fuels. Native plants will be added following that effort. The work is scheduled to take place in February at the Grove Trailhead, located off Sunset Peak Road.

Work in Hulls Gulch is expected to start in mid-February and will take approximately one week to complete, weather permitting. Because large machinery is needed, the project will include the temporary closure of the Grove Trailhead.
