Idaho Bill to make Mandatory moment of silence in public schools advances to House floor

BOISE, Idaho — For many students in Idaho public schools, the day begins with the Pledge of Allegiance. Now, a bill moving through the Statehouse would add another daily routine: a mandatory 60-second moment of silence.

The legislation cleared the House Education Committee and is headed to the House floor.

The bill would require all K-12 public schools to observe one minute of silence at the start of each school day. According to the bill’s sponsor, the time could be used for reflection, meditation or prayer…
