Prescribed fires planned for Boise region to safeguard communities from wildfires

The Payette, Boise and Salmon-Challis national forests all plan to ignite prescribed fires this spring, pending required approvals and favorable weather. The projects are intended to reduce overgrown vegetation and help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

Residents may see smoke at times while crews are burning. They can check current air quality on AirNow online or through the app, and are urged to slow down and turn on their headlights if they run into smoke on the road.
