CALDWELL, Idaho — After months of delays, the Caldwell City Council voted Wednesday to move forward with a quiet zone that will prohibit trains from routinely sounding their horns at seven railroad crossings near downtown.
In two separate 5-1 votes at a special city council workshop, council members accepted a $238,000 contract bid to complete safety enhancements at the railroad crossings and formally establish the quiet zone. Councilwoman Diana Register cast the lone dissenting vote in both.
The vote comes after a March 17 council meeting where Councilman Scott Tilmant made a motion to end the month’s delay of voting on the project, forcing the item to be on the agenda for Wednesday night’s workshop…
