Man taken into custody after armed standoff with Nampa police

NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) – A man is in custody after a standoff with Nampa Police. Nampa Police Dispatch received a call from a citizen in the 2200 block of S. Lexi’s Lane, in Nampa, early Saturday morning reporting “big pops” in the area every 10 to 15 minutes, totaling 3 to 4 times. Police say the caller was unsure what the noises were. Once Police arrived on scene, they located a man standing near a sliding glass door in an apartment holding a shotgun. Police say the suspect, Alexander “Alex” Rafeal Garza, 32 years old, of Nampa, is known to Police.

In an attempt to negotiate with Garza, Nampa Police say they tried to call his cell phone, but it went directly to voicemail. With coordination from dispatchers, officers also began evacuating nearby apartments. Nampa PD’s Special Operations Group, which includes its Tactical Response Team and Crisis Negotiators, got involved.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., Police say Garza came to the door again, still armed, and Nampa Officers fired their weapons at him. Garza was not hit, but he threw two firearms outside, and he exited the apartment. Upon contact with Garza, there was a physical fight and taser deployment, which resulted in Garza being taken into custody…
