I-84 and nearby roads closed during standoff; suspect in custody

MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — A report of shots fired in west Meridian led to a police pursuit, an hour-long standoff, and temporary closures along I- 84 on April 1, before a suspect surrendered peacefully, said Meridian Police.

At about 4:37 p.m., Meridian Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of W. Overland Road. Investigators determined that John Handegard, a 37-year-old man from Kuna, discharged multiple rounds from a handgun into the air while in a parking lot in the area.

Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially located the suspect vehicle, described as a white truck, and attempted to stop it. The suspect failed to stop and eluded officers, leading them on a pursuit lasting about two miles, police said…
