After 34 years US Navy retires USS Boise

BOISE, Idaho — The U.S. Navy is retiring the USS Boise, ending the career of a 34-year-old attack submarine that spent roughly a decade out of service due to maintenance delays and shipyard backlogs.

Last Friday, the Navy announced plans to inactivate the Los Angeles-class submarine, bringing an early end to what was originally expected to be a 30- to 40-year service life.
