“Dot cakes” are the latest food rage on social media and bakeries and stores across Massachusetts have hopped on the sweet trend.
The phenomenon for this viral dessert came from The Dotcakes bakery, a family-owned business in Roslyn, New York, Food Network reported. Other bakeries and businesses began creating their own versions of dot cakes, with TikTok users trying to make their own at home.
What are dot cakes?
Dot cakes are all about the presentation because they’re otherwise basically just cake and frosting. The cake, however, is shaped to fit a shallow cup or jar, is covered in buttercream and then — and this is key — it’s all topped with a thick layer of colorful nonpareil sprinkles that creates a crunchy finish.
