Tewksbury to review Flock camera program

TEWKSBURY — Tewksbury will undertake a comprehensive review of the Flock Safety license plate reader program following an extensive public hearing during the June 23 Select Board meeting that drew questions from residents and the board about data privacy, cybersecurity and the future scope of the technology.

Among the most significant announcements of the evening, Police Chief Ryan Columbus said the Tewksbury Police Department has voluntarily removed itself from Flock’s National Lookup Network. The department now shares li­cense plate reader data on­ly with Massachusetts law enforcement agencies while the town continues evaluating the program.

“Our investigations primarily rely on local and regional information,” Col­umbus said. “We believe this is an appropriate step while we continue evaluating this program.”…
