First Alert: Hot and humid Fourth of July, thunderstorms possible in afternoon

Happy Fourth!

We’ve passed through the hottest temperatures and highest humidity, but it’s still a sizzling celebration of our country’s 250th birthday.

Highs will quickly soar to the mid-90s with heat indices running around 100-105.

We’re also watching the thunderstorm threat after noontime. While we aren’t seeing an outbreak of severe weather, some storms may be strong into the late afternoon or early evening – predominately south of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

We’re thinking most of the storms will have cleared Greater Boston by 7 p.m. tonight – great news for the fireworks extravaganza!

Humidity will drop towards midnight, and noticeably less humid air will be in place by Sunday morning…
