Former Massachusetts security specialist sentenced for bribery attempt

BOSTON (WWLP) – A former security specialist with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) from Massachusetts was sentenced in connection with attempting to bribe a public official.

In a news release from the Department of Justice, 35-year-old Edward Doherty of Washington, D.C. and Weymouth, Massachusetts allegedly trying to bribe another DOE employee to secure government contracts for a private company.

In 2024, just before working for DOE, Doherty started a company in Weymouth called MAE Systems, LLC, a national security and quality assurance firm, according to its website. While working as a security specialist for the DOE, he agreed to participate in the deferred resignation program in February 2025.
