When we were kids growing up in Lynn in the late ’80s and early ’90s, news of Wyoma Square’s Dairy Queen closing all to make way for an incoming Walgreens was devastating! Frequent trips to what I remember as a walk-up ice cream place was my first introduction to soft serve ice cream, cherry and butterscotch dip, and my one true love – the Oreo Blizzard.
I was visiting my mother in my hometown of Lynn back in March when I saw the “DQ Coming Soon” sign up on the former Santander Bank location on Broadway adjacent to the fire house. There was no opening date then, but on July 20th, Lynn’s Wyoma area Dairy Queen, after more than 30 years, had returned to a line of people waiting to enjoy.
