We’re tracking a chance of showers and storms…and the partial lunar eclipse!
As we move through this Thursday, we’ll see increasing clouds ahead of a weather system that will bring a chance of rain and storms to parts of Greater Boston later this evening into Friday.
Severe weather threat
Before the rain gets here, though, we’ll be watching out west toward upstate New York and western Massachusetts where some storms could be strong to severe. Damaging winds, hail and perhaps a weak tornado could develop toward western Mass. this afternoon and evening.
Partial lunar eclipse tonight
If the clouds break up a bit, you might have a chance to check out the partial lunar eclipse tonight. The eclipse will begin around 10:33 p.m. as the Earth’s shadow slowly masks the moon and turn’s the lunar surface into a reddish-orange hue. The eclipse will reach its maximum around 12:12 a.m. Friday.
Many spots, including right here in Boston, will likely see around 93% to 96% of the Earth’s shadow covering the moon. So, while it’s not totality, it will still be a cool sight to see. And get this. You won’t need special glasses to view this eclipse. Just look up! The partial eclipse will end around 1:51 a.m. Friday.
Rain chances – weather radar
Now, let’s get back to the rain. In fact, the threat for showers will continue into early Friday morning for some of us. Then, by afternoon, a thunderstorm or two could pop up as a cold front crosses the area.
High temperatures today will be in the mid 80s with gusty south winds.
By Friday, highs will be in the low 80s.
Weekend weather
We’re tracking a decent weekend with sunshine and clouds. The sea breeze will keep temperatures in the mid to upper 70s in Boston on Saturday. Highs will likely reach the 80s MetroWest. Then, on Sunday, much of our area will be in the mid 80s…
