The Newton Public Facilities Committee met Wednesday to discuss a proposal raised by several city councilors to revoke the gas main access “two-foot rule,” ultimately voting to table the discussion until November.
The “two-foot rule” allows the Department of Public Works (DPW) to issue street opening permits for non-emergency work without having to appear before Newton’s City Council for a grant of location approval, given that the work is within two feet of a gas main.
