BOSTON (WPRI) — Anthony “Spucky” Spagnolo, a longtime New England mobster who was in the room for a notorious 1989 mob induction ceremony secretly recorded by the FBI, has died. He was 84.
Spagnolo, of Revere, Massachusetts, was once the acting boss of the Patriarca crime family, taking the reins in 2012 after Anthony DiNunzio was arrested and later pleaded guilty to racketeering.
Spagnolo’s last brush with the law came in 2014. He pleaded guilty two years later to extorting protection payments from a company that supplied illegal video poker machines to bars and social clubs. He was sentenced to 20 months in federal prison…
