A Brockton city councilor is raising concerns after a probationary employee in the building department was arrested on drunk driving and firearms charges.
“Building inspectors need to exhibit sound judgement, and they enter homes and businesses to interact with people. It doesn’t take a court conviction to tell me this person does not reflect the standards of conduct I would expect in a person who enforces building codes and regulations,” Brockton City Councilor-at-large Winthrop Farwell Jr. wrote in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Luciano DePina, a probationary building inspector for the city, was arrested by Bridgewater police on Sept. 20 following a motor vehicle stop on Forest Street. According to the department’s official X account, officers responded at 2:51 a.m. to a report of an erratic driver.
